HCP Degree Programs

Dental Assisting Technology and Management students will be able to: 

• PLO 1: Apply principles of ethical reasoning, ethical decision-making and professional responsibility in dental assisting as they pertain to the academic environment, research, patient care and practice management. 

• PLO 2: Provide comprehensive care and management of patients using critical thinking strategies related to dental assisting functions. 

• PLO 3: Interact effectively with diverse population groups and other members of the health care team using interpersonal and communication problem solving strategies. 

• PLO 4: Acquire practical knowledge and self-assessment skills necessary for life-long learning in the dental sciences. 

Dental Hygiene students will be able to: 

• PLO 1: Apply principles of ethical reasoning, ethical decision-making and professional responsibility in dental hygiene as they pertain to the academic environment, research, patient care and practice management that includes demonstrating competent knowledge and self-assessment skills necessary for life-long learning. 

• PLO 2: Provide oral health care to individuals at all stages of life and for all periodontal classifications using critical thinking strategies related to comprehensive care and management of patients. 

• PLO 3: Interact effectively with diverse population groups and other members of the health care team using interpersonal and communication problem solving strategies. 

• PLO 4: Develop the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation components of community-based oral health programs including health promotion and disease prevention activities. 

 EMT Students will be able to:

• PLO 1: Assess and manage care for a variety of medical and trauma emergencies.​​​​​​​
• PLO 2: Apply the principles of therapeutic communication in EMT practice with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
• PLO 3: Acquire practical knowledge to perform basic lifesaving interventions within the scope of practice as an entry level EMT and member of a healthcare team.​​​​​​​

Nursing R.N. students will be able to: 

• PLO 1: Apply evidence-based practice developed from knowledge of nursing, scientific, and humanistic disciplines to improve patient outcomes. 
• PLO 2: Accept responsibility for own professional nursing practice as an entry level generalist. 
• PLO 3: Utilize critical thinking and collaborates with the inter-professional team to provide quality patient care in a variety of settings. 
• PLO 4: Provide holistic care and advocates for patients by coordinating and integrating care with sensitivity, empathy, and respect for patient and family values, community preferences, cultural, and socioeconomic needs. 
• PLO 5: Apply the principles of effective therapeutic communication with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team. 
• PLO 6: Utilize information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making. 
• PLO 7: Minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through individual performance and adherence to facility policy/national standards. 

Bachelor of Nursing students will be able to: 

• PLO 1: Integrate knowledge from social and natural sciences to provide evidence-based, cost effective, high quality nursing care across the healthcare continuum. 

• PLO 2: Demonstrate competency as an effective communicator and educator to provide professional nursing care across the healthcare continuum. 

• PLO 3: Cultivate a spirit of inquiry as an information manager, innovator and consumer of research to provide professional nursing care using evidence-based practice. 

• PLO 4: Demonstrate competency to coordinate, manage and collaborate to provide professional nursing care across the healthcare continuum. 

• PLO 5: Demonstrate effective therapeutic nursing intervention with a respect for diversity and advanced moral and ethical decision-making. 

• PLO 6: Use evolving technologies to manage health information and guide professional decision-making. 

• PLO 7: Build collaborative relationships as advanced nursing leaders while promoting high quality care and evidence-based decision making in a variety of settings.

Paramedic students will be able to:​​​​​​​

• PLO 1: Explain the anatomy and physiology related to cardiology, and assess and manage care for a variety of cardiac rhythms, and demonstrate appropriate use and application of cardiac monitoring.

• PLO 2: Explain the anatomy and physiology related to airway management, and assess and manage care for a variety of respiratory complaints, and demonstrate appropriate use and application of airway monitoring equipment.
• PLO 3: Provide evidence-based emergency medical care to assess a patient, formulate a field impression, implement a pharmacologic plan, and improve critical and emergent patient outcomes within the scope of practice as an entry level paramedic and member of a health care team.
• PLO 4: Acquire paramedic knowledge and skills needed to assess and manage care for patients of all age groups (e.g., pediatric, OB/GYN) in a variety of medical and trauma emergencies that require appropriately delegating to other health care team members, serving as an advocate for patients’ healthcare needs, and affecting safe patient care.​​​​​​​
• PLO 5: Apply the principles of therapeutic communication in paramedic practice with patients, families, and other members of the health care team needed to relay messages regarding the evaluation of emergency scenes for safety, patient needs, and additional resources, including transport and destination decisions.

Radiologic Technology students will be able to: 

• PLO 1: Apply knowledge of patient care principles to provide safe, ethical, and effective care for patients. 
• PLO 2: Develop effective routines integrating principles related to radiation biology and radiation safety to protect the patient, self, and others from exposure to ionizing radiation.  
• PLO 3: Produce quality radiographs by selecting appropriate exposure techniques that integrate knowledge of anatomical structures for patient positioning, radiographic equipment use, and image production.
• PLO 4: Acquire practical radiography skills and knowledge necessary for implementing professional patient management, radiation protection, equipment operation, and various radiographic procedures.  

Respiratory Care students will be able to:

• PLO 1: Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in oral, written and visual forms.
• PLO 2: Demonstrate the ability to apply technical skills in all prescribed therapeutic modalities and diagnostic procedures required of an entry level registered respiratory therapist.
• PLO 3: Demonstrate the ability to recall, apply, and analyze the common core of knowledge required of an entry level registered respiratory therapist.

Surgical Technology Specialists will be able to: 

• PLO 1: Perform skills necessary to safely fulfill the role of an entry-level surgical technologist (ST) including the first scrub role and second circulator role during basic surgical procedures while evaluating information using problem-solving and critical thinking skills relevant to the role of the ST. 

• PLO 2: Demonstrate professional behaviors consistent with the profession and employer expectations that utilize ethical and legal considerations relevant to the role of the surgical technologist. 

• PLO 3: Demonstrate proficiency in the application of aseptic technique in an entry-level competence in the handling and care, of surgical equipment relevant to the role of the ST and exhibit a comprehensive understanding of surgical procedures by passing the Certified Surgical Technologist exam.
