Lead with Purpose. Grow with Vision.
Join the President’s Leadership Institute.
The President's Leadership Institute (PLI) is a unique leadership development program built upon the belief that leadership is a behavior, not a position. It is also built upon the notion that maximizing the strengths of the College, not minimizing weaknesses, is the best way to continue to excel. Those strengths are found among high performing faculty and staff and PLI is an investment in the future of the College.
The President’s Leadership Institute (PLI) is more than a leadership program—it’s a transformative personalized journey designed to shape the next generation of leaders at Tallahassee State College one participant at a time.
At the heart of PLI is a powerful blend of strategic insight, personal mentorship, and real-world application. Participants engage in dynamic, yearlong, full-day sessions held on select Fridays, where they explore timely case studies, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and apply leadership principles directly to the College’s mission and strategic goals.
Each session features distinguished executives, trustees, elected officials, and industry leaders who serve as guest speakers and panelists, bringing real-time experience and opportunities into the room. From navigating legislative priorities during a Day at the Florida Capitol to exploring the nuances of grace, burnout, stress, and boundary-setting in the workplace, PLI equips participants with the tools to lead with clarity and compassion.

What Sets PLI Apart?
- Direct Mentorship from the President: Dr. Jim Murdaugh personally attends every session and individually mentors each participant, offering guidance that extends beyond the program.
- Strategic Impact: At the conclusion of the program, participants present a data-informed capstone project developed by them that is aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan, delivering actionable solutions that make a real difference.
- Personal Growth: Through curated leadership assessments and an Individual Leadership Action Plan, participants gain deep self-awareness and a roadmap for continued development.
- Immersive Experiences: Sessions are held at the main campus locations across all three counties in the College’s service area, reinforcing the regional impact of leadership and community engagement.
Application Process:
To apply directly, faculty and staff must first confirm with their supervisor that they will be granted permission to participate on the scheduled dates and times.
Selected candidates will be chosen from a wide range of roles throughout the college, including a diversified body of classified staff, faculty, departmental deans, directors, and administrative staff.

President Murdaugh's Perspective On Leadership
![]() |
“Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It’s about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others’ success, and then standing back and letting them shine.” - Dr. Jim Murdaugh, President, Tallahassee State College |
