Gus Turnbull Model UN Scholarship

Fund #3637

Augustus B. Turnbull III HeadshotThis scholarship was established in 1999 by Marjorie R. Turnbull to honor the memory of her husband, Augustus B. Turnbull III.

A graduate of the University of Georgia and University of Virginia, Dr. Turnbull was a member of the FSU faculty and served in many administrative positions such as Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Provost for Social Science and Law. His time at FSU led to the establishment of many institutions such as the College of Engineering, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and the new School of Motion Picture, Television, and recording Arts. Dr. Turnbull held office and/or membership in many organizations up until his death in 1991.

This scholarship is awarded to students who are engaged in Tallahassee State College’s award-winning Model UN Program.  The purpose of this student-led organization is to facilitate a better understanding of international issues and to improve skills in research, writing, public speaking, and collaborative decision-making. This is done through preparation for and participation in regional and international conferences, where students debate and collaborate with each other as they attempt to resolve international issues from the perspective of their chosen country.
