The Tallahassee Community College Wakulla Center launched its newest program, Medical Administrative Specialist in September. The program will allow students to gain employment in one of the most in-demand medical fields in the state and nation, along with becoming nationally certified as a Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAA).
The inaugural class will learn skills ranging from medical coding and billing to triaging appointments.
“The instructors are excellent,” said Nora Mauldin, a Medical Administrative Specialist student at the TCC Wakulla Center. “They present the information in a clear concise manner, discuss real life work scenarios, and employment opportunities post-graduation. I look forward to our classes each day.”
“My learning environment has been very beneficial during this COVID-19 pandemic; small class size (less stress) and more time to interact with the instructors even with social distancing measures,” said Alexandria Mills, a Medical Administrative Specialist student at the TCC Wakulla Center. “It’s perfect and enjoyable.”During a time where the need for healthcare workers is at an all-time high, this program provides students with the skills in a variety of health care setting including private medical practices hospitals, clinics, public health departments, government agencies or insurance firms.
“We recognize the important role that healthcare workers play day in, day out,” said Kimberly A. Moore, Vice President for Workforce Innovation & TCC2WORK. “Therefore, it is very important to TCC that we play an active role in offering opportunities that meet the immediate demand of local employers while at the same time provide local residents with in demand skills.”
