The Tallahassee Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of two new scholarships – the Kay Corbett Nursing Scholarship and the Brian Thomas Gleason Public Safety Scholarship.
The Kay Corbett Nursing Scholarship was created to honor the life of Catherine Elizabeth Casey Corbett, affectionately known as Kay, a caring and kind individual who found her calling in nursing. Her daughter, Peggy Corbett Harris, wanted to honor her mother, who supported her throughout her own career as an RN. When establishing the scholarship, Peggy noted that the scholarship should be provided to a nursing student with a GPA between 2.75 and 3.0 - because those students who may not be at the top of the class make wonderful nurses, too.
The Brian Thomas Gleason Public Safety Scholarship will benefit students at TCC's Florida Public Safety Institute. Thomas and Jennifer Gleason created the scholarship to honor their son, PFC Brian Thomas Gleason who died in the line of duty with the 519th Military Police Battalion in Fort Polk, Louisiana, at the age of 20. We are grateful for his service.
“We are so very grateful for the support of people like Ms. Harris and the Gleason Family,” said Heather Mitchell, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at TCC and Executive Director of the TCC Foundation. “Financial need is cited as the single greatest barrier to obtaining a college education. At TCC, we believe that we must help those students who have demonstrated their potential to succeed, but who simply do not have the financial means to attend. Scholarships are key! They make education attainable for those who need financial assistance and enable students to focus on their education, rather than just trying to survive. That’s why investments like these from Ms. Harris and the Gleasons are so very important.”
