Tallahassee Community College will host the annual Tallahassee Science Festival (TSF) on Saturday, September 30, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Kleman Plaza in Downtown Tallahassee. The festival returns for its twelfth year, showcasing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with demonstrations, live presentations, and hands-on activities. Attendees will have the chance to explore live specimens and fossils, build their own sugar rocket, wield magnetic wands, and take in planetarium showings in the Challenger. There will be marine tanks and super-cold cryogens, along with games, models, crafts, and a scavenger hunt for the chance to win prizes. In addition, the Challenger Learning Center will be hosting a free showing of Wall-E.
The festival is free to attend, thanks to the many generous community sponsors, including the city of Tallahassee, Challenger Learning Center, Clothesline, Comcast, FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, and TCC Foundation. Organizations from around the Big Bend region and beyond will be on-site, including STEM departments and programs from TCC, Florida State University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and University of Florida.
“Every year, I look forward to getting to watch families come together and enjoy science,” said Anthony Jones, festival director and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Tallahassee Community College. “The festival allows attendees to engage in numerous hands-on exhibits as well as explore the Challenger Learning Center.”
TCC is grateful to this year’s festival partners, Leon County Schools, Gadsden County Schools, Wakulla County Schools, and FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. The TSF has been a proud member of the Science Festival Alliance since Bill and Elaine Grace founded it in 2012.
