Tallahassee Community College will host the third annual Tallahassee History Festival on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Kleman Plaza in Downtown Tallahassee. The free community event features programs, exhibits, reenactments, and activities showcasing Florida’s rich history.
More than 40 area museums and archaeological and historical organizations will be on-hand.
Festival highlights include:
- A presentation from Tiffany Baker, Director of the Historic Capitol Museum, on the Florida Historic Capitol Museum. The Museum serves to illuminate the past, present, and future connections between the people of Florida and their political institutions through programs of civic education, historic interpretation, and preservation.
- A presentation from Jarvis Rosier, Civil War Heritage Coordinator at the Riley House Museum, and founder of the 2nd Infantry Regiment United States Colored Troops Living History Association which represents the 2nd and 99th regiments of the United States Colored Troops who fought at the Battle of Natural Bridge.
- Pricilla, the Aucilla Research Institute’s reconstructed mastodon skeleton, which was found in the Aucilla River in Jefferson County in the 1960s.
- The Challenger Learning Center will present a free screening of October Sky. The show starts at 2 p.m. and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
