Jason Fowler Named Vice President for Information Technology

September 4, 2024

Tallahassee State College is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Fowler as the new Vice President for Information Technology. With nearly three decades of experience in both secondary and post-secondary education, Jason brings a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a deep personal connection to the College to his new role.

Jason’s journey with Tallahassee State College began in 1994 as a dual enrollment student, making him a first-generation college student. This early connection with the College set the stage for a lifelong commitment to education and technology. After graduating from Liberty County High School in 1996, Jason enrolled full-time at the then Tallahassee Community College, where he became the College's first enrollment call center employee. Balancing work and studies, Jason earned an associate in arts degree in 1998, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Florida State University in 2000. He later completed a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education in 2011.

Jason's professional career has been marked by a dedication to enhancing educational opportunities and technology infrastructure. From 2005 to 2013, he worked with the Liberty County School District in various roles, including as a Guidance and Business Education instructor and later as Coordinator of Technology, Alternative Education, and Special Programs.

In 2013, Jason returned to Tallahassee State College, where his expertise in technology quickly advanced him to the role of Director of IT Infrastructure. In this position, he was instrumental in modernizing the College's IT systems, playing a pivotal role in enabling a seamless transition to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jason’s personal connection to Tallahassee State College runs deep. Both he and his wife, Mandie, are proud alumni of the College. Their two children, Eric and Sally, continued the family tradition by dual enrolling at the College during high school. Eric graduated with an associate in arts degree in 2017 and later earned a Law Enforcement Certification from the Florida Public Safety Institute, graduating from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's academy in 2018. Sally completed her degree as a Registered Nurse in 2021, with both children benefiting from the College’s tuition waiver program.

President Jim Murdaugh commented on the appointment, saying, "Jason Fowler has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to our College’s mission. His extensive experience, both in education and technology, combined with his personal connection to our institution, makes him the ideal choice to lead our IT division into the future."

Jason Fowler’s appointment as Vice President for Information Technology marks a significant milestone for Tallahassee State College, which continues to prioritize technological innovation and student success.
