Tallahassee State College’s Destinee Britto Named 2025 DREAM Scholar

February 19, 2025

Tallahassee State College (TSC) is proud to announce that Destinee Britto has been selected as a 2025 DREAM Scholar by Achieving the Dream (ATD). Britto is one of only eight students nationwide to receive this prestigious honor, awarded through a competitive selection process.

The DREAM Scholars program offers students from ATD institutions a unique opportunity to develop leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills. As a DREAM Scholar, Britto will participate in a transformative learning experience that culminates in attending and presenting at the DREAM 2025 convening in Philadelphia, PA, from February 18-21, 2025. She will join national education leaders, faculty, and fellow scholars to share her experiences and insights on student success and equity in higher education.

“Destinee has worked incredibly hard to earn this recognition, and we are thrilled to see her receive this well-deserved honor,” said Dr. Jim Murdaugh, President of TSC. “She is a remarkable student with a bright future, and we are proud to have her represent TSC on a national stage.”

Britto’s journey to success has been shaped by perseverance and resilience. Overcoming financial challenges and cultural barriers from a young age, she was inspired by her mother’s battle with cancer to embrace courage and determination in the face of adversity. Today, as Student Government President at Tallahassee State College, she is a passionate advocate for inclusivity and student empowerment. She also serves as an ambassador for the Royal Bank of the Caribbean’s Race for Kids, using her platform to support children facing serious illnesses.

Britto aspires to become a sports lawyer specializing in immigration law, aiming to provide pro bono legal services to individuals who face barriers to their dreams due to their country of origin. She believes that authenticity and compassion are the most powerful tools for transformation.

“This program embodies values that I hold close to my heart: leadership, service, resilience, and the drive to make a positive impact,” said Britto.

During the DREAM 2025 convening, Britto and her fellow DREAM Scholars will share their personal stories, engage in exclusive conversations with keynote speakers, and participate in a panel discussion on the role of community colleges in driving student success. The DREAM Scholar panel has become a conference highlight, and Tallahassee State College is honored to have one of its students featured.

Achieving the Dream has been a leading force in transforming higher education institutions across the country for more than two decades. ATD continues to empower students and institutions to drive meaningful change by fostering access, momentum, and mobility.
