Tallahassee State College (TSC), in partnership with ASPIRE Capital Region, announces the launch of a new dual-enrollment course, SLS 1301: Career Readiness, at Godby High School. This course will equip high school seniors with essential skills and resources to prepare for success after graduation.
This class, offered on-campus at Godby, is part of a larger effort to increase college enrollment among Godby seniors, supported by the Florida College Access Network (FCAN) and the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation. The program specifically targets Title I high schools across Florida, focusing on creating pathways to higher education and career readiness.
A cornerstone of the initiative is ASPIRE Capital Region’s Bringing Economic and Career Opportunities Nearer (BEACON) Project, which has already achieved remarkable success at Godby High School. Since its inception, BEACON has increased Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rates from 46.8% to an impressive 88%. BEACON volunteers meet individually with graduating seniors to discuss post-high school plans, financial aid opportunities, and the critical role of FAFSA in pursuing higher education.
“This program is a game-changer for students,” said Dr. Calandra Stringer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at TSC. “By combining hands-on guidance with practical career readiness skills, we’re not only opening doors to higher education but also empowering students to confidently pursue their future goals.”
With the launch of the Career Readiness course, TSC and its partners continue to strengthen the college-going culture at Godby High School, ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed in their educational and career pursuits.
