Tallahassee State College Launches Two New Healthcare Degree Programs This Fall

June 16, 2025

Tallahassee State College (TSC) is expanding its healthcare offerings with the launch of two new associate in science (A.S.) degree programs: Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Medical Assisting Advanced. Both programs will begin in Fall 2025 and are designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the region’s healthcare workforce.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography A.S. Degree prepares students to use ultrasound imaging to help physicians diagnose and monitor medical conditions. Students will be trained in abdominal-extended, obstetrics, and gynecology scans and will learn to obtain diagnostic images, analyze technical information, and evaluate sonograms for anatomical abnormalities. This high-demand program supports careers in hospitals, outpatient care centers, and physicians’ offices.

The Medical Assisting Advanced A.S. Degree trains students to work in both clinical and administrative roles under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals. Students will gain hands-on experience in taking vital signs, administering injections, assisting with minor surgical procedures, and supporting laboratory operations. On the administrative side, they will learn medical office procedures including patient communication, appointment scheduling, and maintaining records.

“These new programs reflect our commitment to providing relevant, high-impact degrees that directly connect students to in-demand careers,” said Dr. Calandra Stringer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at TSC. “By expanding our offerings in the healthcare sector, we’re not only helping students succeed—we’re also helping our local healthcare system meet critical staffing needs.”

Admission to both programs is selective and based on a point system that includes HESI A2 test scores, prior degrees or certifications, GPA in prerequisite courses, and military service. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and meet all TSC admission requirements. There is no waiting list; candidates with the highest points will be admitted.
