Adjunct Enrichment Program

ATLAS is a professional development opportunity for adjuncts to connect with colleagues, learn more about TSC's resources, and support and expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities related to teaching and learning excellence.

ATLAS is open to adjuncts who have taught a minimum of one course at TSC and who are currently teaching at least one course at TSC. Participants who attend all ATLAS sessions and meet program requirements will receive a one-time stipend of $500.

Prerequisite:

To be eligible to participate, candidates must have taught a minimum of one (1) course at TSC and must also be teaching at least one (1) course while participating in ATLAS.

Goals:

To enable participants to use best practices in teaching and learning and provide knowledge of resources at TSC to engage students in active learning that results in increased student achievement.

Objectives: 

• Integrate faculty into the TSC educational community.
• Promote the professional growth of faculty.
• Develop institutional practices that foster a commitment to student learning.
• Impact student learning outcomes through improved teaching.
• Provide orientation to TSC’s student success initiatives.
• Project and support a learning-centered teaching philosophy.
• Aid with instructional design, integrating technology, active learning, student engagement strategies, assessment, and classroom management.

AFAP is an opportunity for adjuncts to expand the work completed in ATLAS by developing and implementing a High Impact Practice (HIPS) in their own specific course. High-impact practices are research-supported teaching and learning methods that have been shown to significantly impact student learning and success. During this course, participants will: 

• Develop a HIP for the course(s) currently teaching.
• Implement the HIP
• Present the findings at the end of the semester.

• To be eligible for this program, participants must:
  • have completed the ATLAS program
  • be currently teaching at TSC
  • have had a minimum of two semesters of teaching employment at TSC
  • be able to participate in all in-person workshops as scheduled
  • be able to complete required discussions as assigned in Canvas
• Participants who attend all AFAP sessions and meet program requirements will receive a salary increase of $100 per credit hour in subsequent semesters (renewable every 2 years), as well as a certificate of completion, induction as an Adjunct Professor, and other benefits.

Prerequisite:

• Completion of ATLAS program
• Minimum of two semesters of teaching employment at TSC
• Minimum of 12 credit hours taught at TSC
• Statement of Commitment

*Eligibility exemptions are outlined below:

• Retired TSC Faculty do not have to complete the ATLAS prerequisite.
• Retired TSC Faculty meet the semester and credit hour requirement if they begin AFAP as an adjunct within three years of retirement.
• Adjuncts with proof of 2 years of full-time equivalent teaching (60 semester hours) within the past five years in a higher education setting can be exempt from the ATLAS prerequisite.

Program Description:

The Adjunct Faculty Advancement Program (AFAP) aims to delve deeper into theoretical concepts of teaching and learning and explore various teaching strategies that increase student success factors based on evidence from research. In addition, AFAP intends to engage adjunct faculty in service to the College and in professional growth and to provide reward and recognition for their commitment to student learning and success.

• Promote the professional growth of adjunct faculty.
• Develop institutional practices that foster a commitment to student learning.
• Impact student learning outcomes through effective teaching practices.
